15/06/2016 - Content Update - Managing a city is a tough job

Some notes

Hi there,

Let me start off by saying I never want to hear the word water, engineer, flood and slime again. Nah, it's not that bad. Working on the new content patch has been a lot of fun, so I hope you enjoy to also.

As I've explained previously, the current patch isn't complete. I will be releasing 3 more patches, one of them tomorrow, in the following order:

  • This patch, engineer quest
  • Grammar/Spelling/Bug fixes
  • New "companion" patch
  • Grammar/Spelling/Bug fixes
In the future I'll be releasing more, smaller patches. This one was too big and I constantly felt like I was being rushed to get something out because of my own mistake. I definitely like what's there, but there's so much more I wanted to do and so much more I wanted to add. Expect me to change/expand some of the current content in the near future.

Patch Content

The current patch contains the following changes / new content:

  • Location description can change based on flags
  • New location outside the city, the plains
  • Motivation for player to go to the mansion
  • The engineer's quest
    • Create conversation with engineer
  • Slime threesome scene
  • Options in dialog can now be hidden depending on stats
  • Charm added back to the game as status
  • Charm added back to the levelup menu
  • Item dispenser in the clothes store
    • Encounters can now start in locations randomly / forced
    • Dialog can now start a battle
    • Bug fixes / Changes, special thanks to Vylir
      • Spelling error in "History of Alchemy" Chapter 3 has been corrected
      • Bart's Framed Pictures will now be removed when giving it to Bart
    • Create more lively city
    • New building called the Engineer's mansion
    • Timepiece that keeps track of time
      • Retrieved inside the mansion
    • Add current time to save name
    • Finish day-/time system that only works when the player is outside
      • Several different texts that change depending on the time. Only works if the player is somewhere where they can see the sky.
    • Create battle with security in mansion
      • With encounter leading up to it
    • Create puzzle inside mansion, hopefully not too tricky
    • Usable items
      • Being able to use items in general, and giving them a function (potions heal you, for example)
    • Usable items during a fight
    • Create settings for fights you can't run from
    • Change existing text that refers to multiple engineers, to mention only one engineer
    • Battles on location based on flag values
    • Preparations for new housing options
      • Buy new furniture, house upgrades, etc. Will appear in a later patch
    • You can now load a save during a battle without locking them
    • Rewritten the load and save function entirely, because the first one I created was a monster
    • Many small changes to existing texts

    Upcoming content

For the next patches, after the current content update, I've decided a few things on the submissive / dominance scale relationship with your companion. These are my notes:
"This system works like a scale. You start at 0, -100 means complete dominance, 100 means complete submission.

Start out with a 50% chance of the slime companion doing a random action during combat. Every 2 points into dominance gives a 1% bonus chance for this to happen going up to an extra 50% chance. Every 2 points into submissive lowers this chance by 1%.

The random actions work with milestones. At 0, if a random action occurs, it wont be too bad. It might increase your lust a little bit, but that's about it. At -100, your companion might even force you to submit to your opponent. At +100, they will work extra hard to obey your command. This can give you status boosts. Both stats can affect sex scenes after a fight."

    In summary

New patch, probably lots of spelling / grammar mistakes. I'll fix them asap!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the general direction of the game. Do you think the options are too extreme, or do they not make sense. Is there an option you're missing, something else you think you should be able to do? Something else I completely missed.

I'd love to hear any feedback you have! But now, I'm going to sleep. Good night!

    Sincerely Yours,
    JV

    2. Hello there !

I haven't really got the time I wanted to give to the demo, but here some quick remarks (I still haven't reached the end of content so I have probably missed some stuff, my apologize in advance !)

From my morning session (haven't found the time to answer at that moment :/)
      - Having a HP indicator somewhere when you're off battle could be good (I stupidly forgot to heal before going to attack the guards, I haven't ended well...)

      - On a related note, after the game-over scene, I wasn't able to go to the manor.

      - Also, after "loosing", a decimal was added after my character's hit point (xx.00000000000001). Getting killed multiple times incremented it to xx.00000000000002, xx.00000000000003...

      - In the dialogue before the fight with the guards, the pronoun used is always "him" (AFAIK I played a female character)

      - I don't know what you're supposed to do (I dumbly attacked mindlessly :p) but the guard battle seems unwinnable. Or maybe you have to allocate your stats in a very specific way :/

      - IIRC, you mentioned making reason to visit the engineer. Apart from asking the shopkeeper about the strange manor, I haven't found any reason to go there(okay, and the guard at north say you can't go outside because...), have I missed something ?

      - Still on the UI, the only way I have found to "quit" the save/load menu is to click twice on the inventory. I guess having a back button(or having the save menu close itself after saving) would be nice
Okay, never-mind, I saw you can click on the name of the location. I must admit the fact it's a clickable element isn't obvious :/

      And on tonight's session :
First, I used firefox 46 in a private tab, and my internet connection can be totally buggy at time, so lot of my troubles MAY be related to my internet. I will post them here anyway :

      - When in the save menu, clicking "save" again give an error :
      TypeError: slot_data.companion is undefined
      Stack trace :
      Load/ eval:28:10

      - When trying to load a save (actually when going to the load menu):
      TypeError: slot_data.companion is undefined
      Stack trace :
      Load/ eval:29:10

      - and when clicking on a save to load
      TypeError: _0x3067x29 is undefined
      Stack trace :
      Location/this[_0x816f[185]]@http://jvmymonsterworld.com/js/game.min.js:1:34047
      Dialog/this[_0x816f[18]]@http://jvmymonsterworld.com/js/game.min.js:1:51370
      @http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js line 2 > eval:63:5
It also let the game in a pretty buggy state.

      - In conclusion, I'm pretty sad to announce I wasn't able to use the save system. At all :(

      - Also, I was able to have a "too much recursion" error after opening the mailbox again (I guess my game was already in a pretty buggy state at that point, or that my internet messed up with the game)

      - After creating a character or clicking on your character name give the following error
      TypeError: _0x3067x2[_0x3067x2c][_0x3067x3[_0x3067x2c]] is undefined
      Body/this[_0x816f[190]]()
      game.min.js:1
      Dialog/this[_0x816f[273]]()
      game.min.js:1
      Dialog/this[_0x816f[282]]()
      game.min.js:1
      Dialog/this[_0x816f[26]]()
      game.min.js:1

      game.min.js:1
      f.event.dispatch()
      jquery.min.js:3
      f.event.add/i()
      jquery.min.js:3
(may be related to storage/buggy save, through I closed/opened again the private tab)

      - I got a "Invalid State" error (localforage.min.js:7:13903) when opening the save menu.

      - And appart from that, still unable to beat the guard and struck after that :/

I guess that's all I could find until now. Well, I haven't seen a lot of new content because of that guard :3
