16/06/2016 - Follow-Up Patch - Bug Fixes, Corrections & Changes

Hi there,

As promised, a smaller patch that should take care of most of the bugs and spelling mistakes:

Bug fixes:
  • Bart would always treat the player as if they asked for a discount (Credits to Vylir, thanks!)
  • Bart's shop after moving doesn't have the option of asking about the pots / herbs (Credits to Vylir, thanks!)
  • Doing the puzzle in the mansion several (2?) times would lock the game, making it impossible to progress
  • A few hundred changes and fixes to existing text
Let me know if you find anything else that I missed!

Sincerely Yours,
JV

  1. Duh, It's strange, I'm 100% certain I had posted a comment after the patch O.O

Anyway, here what I've caught on my play sessions the current version (was made a some days ago, I haven't got time to post...)
    - During character creation, it's mentioned slime offer 200HP & 15 LCK as a bonus stat, through you start with 100HP & 5 LCK

    - saving in private browsing doesn't work (and kinda crash the game when loading)

    - After creating a character, I'm unable to access character description (on a new game, after using the mirror, and before getting your "pet")
    "TypeError: _0x3067x2[_0x3067x2c][_0x3067x3[_0x3067x2c]] is undefined"

    - When you first encounter the engineer's guards, they say "is she eating HIM" (while playing a female character)
    - In the same way, when you ask the slime for help they say "male... it's been so long" (while playing female, once again)

    - The battle with the guards is... Well, just... Hard ? (okay, I placed stats where I like them, not in a "useful way", but still for a starter fight it's just violently hard. Sadly in a "try, not excellent rng, die, try again")

    - In the same way, if you fail against the guards, you get struck. At least, I wasn't able to find a way to go to the manor again.

    - check mailbox after being beaten (or "saying the city") give a "too much recursion" error in js. (it may be my internet)

    - the stance is kept when you reload (ex : save in defensive, go to offensive, load, still on offensive). Through that's totally awesome to change stance before a fight you're sure to loose and try all of them :) (having a way to select your starting stance may be good !)

    - I don't know the math behind it, but right now, the defensive stance is just useless. Compared to to the offensive stance, it's halve your damage and give you a ridiculous amount of damage reduction. On the guards, that's just not worth.

    - Two notes on the UI : it could be interesting to have all direction choices greyed when you're "struck" in a dialogue. Also, I'd love to see my hit point when I'm out of battle (to not, for example, go to the guard barely dead because I forgot to heal when coming back to town :p)

Honestly, my feeling is pretty neutral on the update, it's not bad, but I found it pretty short (fair enough, I haven't tried every choice you could make) and it kinda orient the game in a linear direction - things I'm not really used in that kind of game.
Anyway, I'm waiting for what's you have in your sleeve on the familiar update :) Keep on the good work !

    1. I'll try to fix all these issues today, thank you for letting me know! When it's fixed I'll post another reply.

I'm just wondering what makes you think the game is linear right now though, as the point of the options was to make it as non-linear as possible. Granted, in the future there will be a lot more to do before you do this quest.

    2. You're welcome ! Sorry for not posting this sooner !

As for the linearity, I'm used to CoC/FoE/TiTS kind of game, and when it come to online game like that, I tend to expect having a lot of liberty, stuff to do, and being free to do them all.
right now, my gameflow is always create characters -> check vendors -> go to the sewer -> visit bart store + library -> go to bart, ask about engineer -> go to the engineer quest.

I haven't fount alternatives things to do, and I'm somewhat struck with no content to do apart going to the engineer, that's why I call it linear (btw, it may be intended, and just not up to my expectations)

Maybe I have missed some (a lot ?) of content, but right now I feel the game lacks alternative quests and things to do. Fair enough, I understand it's in it early state, and it probably lack toons of content in between.

    3. That's reasonable. It will get better over time! I wanted to display the effect the player can have on the world before focussing on replayability. This is what I'll be focussing on after the current content is done though!

    4. I'll try to address all of your points as best I can:
      - Thank you, I change the description!

      - I don't think it's supposed to work in private browsing, because you can't save to cache in that mode(?) I will fix this in the future so you can save to your computer.

      - I'll keep looking, but I'm unable to reproduce this issue

      - Whoops, made sure it now changes depending on your gender!

      - I realise it's pretty hard, which is kind of annoying right now because if you die you're screwed. It will get easier in the future, but for now you should get as many potions as you can, heal up in bed, skip fights in the sewer and then fight in offensive stance. Just spam potions when you're low and you should be able to win pretty consistently. Later on in the game, if you try this again, you'll probably have a higher level, better gear, etc.

      - The mailbox issue has been resolved!

      - Stances and Equipment changes are now saved / loaded properly

      - Defensive stance is potentially useful against enemies with high attack and defence, but low health. You can survive longer while still dealing enough damage to kill them easily. I'll keep an eye on it!

      - I'll think about greying out directions when you're in a dialog; Sounds like a good idea!

Thank you again for the feedback, much appreciated!

    5. - about private : Actually, I through you had a temporary cache usable during private browsing, that get cleared when you close your browser/tab. I may be wrong on that one through.
Btw, IIRC, private browsing doesn't only break save, but also other things (like being able to see your charater's descrition). Anyway, save to file sounds great !

      - You... an use potion in battle ?! O.O *mind blowing* I must admit I never tried to use them in battle (since the button is in it usual position, away from the battle UI). It probably because I'm used to have a "item" button in the battle choice too...

      - As for the content, fair enough :)

Thanks for answering, and you're welcome for the feedback !

  2. I enjoyed it as well, good to see a use of your character's stats as well in terms of the Charisma check. Also I have not been getting the Slime threesome chance at all but perhaps I have not tried hard enough.

    1. You're supposed to tell the engineer you'll need some time to think about it, and then go to the sewers. Did you try that? The encounter should start as soon as you go down the sewers.

    2. Just did as you mentioned that now and I think you just gave me the realization to check out everything there can be before coming to a decision :\ I was able to see the scene and enjoy it of course. Also one thing to be noted about sleeping, it does not heal all of the damage your character has taken but a decent amount.
