21/03/2016 - Test version live!

Hi there! I have a lot to say, so I'm going to do my best to make clear chapters for you to scim over and read what you're interested in.

[I remember the old project, what happened?]
At the time there were a ton of reasons for me to stop working on new content for the game. I was busy with work, the engine didn't work very well and it was just a pain to implement new content if I did create any.

I didn't abandon the project, I started working on a completely new engine; One that I would enjoy working with. For more information on what changed, keep reading.

[About MMW]
My Monster World is an erotic-themed game where you can pick a companion/monster girl and go out on adventures with them. While playing, you will be able to unlock more companions through various ways/quests. The way you play the game depends on the choices you make, the relationship with your companion and what companion you picked.

[About me]
I had the idea for this project about 2 years ago, but it didn't really work out. Now I'm back with a better design and engine, hoping to make something awesome.

I'm a programmer first, and a writer second. Or maybe a writer fifth. I have no previous writing experience, but I'm learning. I've been told my writing is alright, but I'd like to improve as much as I can to provide a more enjoyable experience for the players.

[Current Content]
I want to clarify that the current content is not a good representation of the final product. It is a prologue that sets that base for your relationship, the lore, motivation for the storyline and basic game mechanics. Once more content comes out, you will get the option to skip the prologue too by changing your starting position.

tl;dr I want players to have a sense of freedom, but that wont happen until there is plenty of locations and randomly generated content.

[What makes MMW unique / How did you make MMW]
My Monster World is running on a Javascript engine I wrote myself. It has JSON parsers for all content, making it quite easy to create tools for players to create their own content with in the future. The engine is very flexible, and structured in a way that will make it easy to expand upon in the future.

In the previous version, the engine used a client-server communication system to prevent cheating and to add unique gameplay mechanics. It has been completely converted to a singleplayer game, only requiring an internet connection to pre-load content files (dialog, items, locations, etc.)

[Plans for the future]
I consider the current content the first half of the prologue. I want to polish it and get some feedback, see if there's anything I overlooked, messed up, have to change, etc. After hearing and processing feedback, I'll work on the release of the last part of the prologue. This part will contain an equip system, usable items, npc affection, last part of the storyline, a new interface, a map and a few basic housing options.

[How you can help]
I have a lot of ideas for this game, and I hope you will enjoy them when I work them out. If you have any idea's/suggestions to make this game better, or noticed things that I may have overlooked, see typo's, weird sentences, things you just absolutely hate or don't agree with, let me know. I would love to hear your feedback, be it good or bad!

Thank you for your time, hope you enjoy the game!

  1. My poor immersion...

Anyway, good start. Some typos here and there but nothing particularly atrocious (might want to read http://theoatmeal.com/comics/apostrophe for good measure).

    Issues encountered so far:
    - can't check the inventory early on, which leads to "you're not supposed to be here" screens.
    - can look at the mirror (at least) twice, which can probably cause issues.
    - your clothes are sacrificed to summon the slime, but then you can go out, speak to various people and not get arrested for your rather obvious lack of attire.
    - can't open the inventory in Marie's shop, so not sure how to use the gift.
    - Bart's name comes up right before he mentions it.
    - accepting Bart's quest doesn't add it to the list... probably not coded yet
    - it feels kinda awkward to leave your companion behind in the library without saying anything...

Looking forward to more interactivity with the companion, and everything you got planned for this.

  2. Heh, sorry!

First of all, thank you for taking your time to let me know! I will look through the list and release a patch in a few hours together with the new interface.

As for the gift, you can't use it just yet because there's no equipment system. The ticket can be exchanged for a piece of unique clothing of choice.

I understand that leaving your companion behind like that is awkward, I'll try to change it a little bit. The reason why you can just leave your companion like that is (mostly) explained during a scene in the sewers that is the next piece of new content on my list.

    Thank you again!

  3. The new Graphical User Interface is done, but I didn't manage to go through your list. I'll get to that tomorrow and upload it.
